Indoor soccer in France: where to play and what it costs

IN SHORT

In France, indoor soccer mostly means 5v5: five-a-side on turf, at a private venue, usually under a roof. Expect about €10 a player, €11 in the evening, weekdays and weekends alike. You don't need a team: half of player-run games are looking for just 1 or 2 people. Futsal is the other kind of indoor soccer, played in a gym and run through clubs.

What "indoor soccer" means in France

Three different things, depending on who you ask.

5v5 at a venue. A private center, a turf pitch boxed in by walls or nets. You book the whole pitch or grab a spot in a game. Eight games in ten are played with 10 players.

Futsal. A gym, a hard floor, a referee, a league license. The full comparison is in futsal vs indoor soccer.

A gym slot. A local club or a group of friends renting a city gym every week. You need to know someone on the inside.

Shoes depend on the floor: "TF" for turf, "IN" for a gym floor. More in our shoe guide.

Where to play near you

The two big chains in France are LE FIVE and UrbanSoccer. Plenty of independent venues fill the gaps.

One venue often has both covered and open-air pitches. UrbanSoccer in Bondues, just north of Lille, has eight covered and two outside. If you book in winter, ask for a covered one.

On Poteau, you see the games around you, with the venue, the time and the open spots. We also have city guides for Lyon, Lille and Marseille.

How much it costs

About €10 a player. One game in four costs €9 or less, one in four €13.50 or more. A whole pitch runs about €80 an hour.

Evenings are €11 every day of the week. Weekday afternoons are the cheapest. Venue by venue, it's all in 5-a-side prices in France.

Evenings and weekends fill up fast

7 and 8 pm are the most wanted kickoff times. On weekday evenings, only one game in ten still has a spot at kickoff. On weekends, about one in six.

These games go up late. For a weekday evening, usually 10 hours ahead. For a weekend evening, 7 hours. Check in the afternoon, not three days before.

Flexible? After 10 pm on weekdays, two games in ten still have room.

No team? Grab a spot

You don't need to round up ten friends. On Poteau, half of player-run games are only missing 1 or 2 people.

Before you sign up, you see the open spots, the price and the expected level. Nearly one game in five welcomes levels 1 to 4. You also see who's already in, and every game has its own chat.

More on that in finding pickup soccer without a team.

Paying less

  • Go for weekday afternoons: €8 instead of €11.

  • Watch for deals. On Poteau, partner venues show a reduced price on one game in two, mostly off-peak.

  • In the afternoon and after 10 pm, four games in ten are discounted. In the evening, barely one in five.

  • Take a spot instead of the pitch. If two friends bail the night before, you're not covering their share.

98% of the time, you pay the venue on site.
