LE FIVE OL sits at the foot of the Groupama Stadium: five indoor fields, all filmed. UrbanSoccer Parilly has twelve, four of them outdoors. We Are Sports, in Vénissieux, has three XL fields, 40 m by 20, big enough for 6v6 or 7v7. Sport dans la Ville, by the river in Vaise, is the only one on the list inside Lyon itself.
LE FIVE OL is a partner center, so its slots land straight on Poteau and you can take one spot without booking the whole field. Around Lyon, 62 centers and fields have their own page on Poteau.
What it costs in Lyon
€10 per player. Exactly the French median (no suspense there).
A quarter of games go for €9.50 or less. A quarter for €15 or more. Same as Lille, €1 more than Toulouse, €1 less than Marseille.
The time of day matters more than the city. In France, a weekday afternoon slot runs about €8, the same field in the evening €11. Full breakdown: how much 5-a-side costs.
The busy days
In Lyon it's Thursday, then Monday. But it depends on the center.
Center | Busiest days |
|---|---|
LE FIVE OL | Monday and Tuesday |
UrbanSoccer Lyon Parilly | Monday and Wednesday |
Sport dans la Ville Rhône-Alpes | Friday and Thursday |
We Are Sports | Thursday and Sunday |
F5 Foot Five | Sunday and Tuesday |
A busy day is good news when you're looking for a spot: more games, so better odds someone is short a player. If you're the one booking the field, it's the opposite.
Where spots are left
On Poteau, nearly 4 in 10 player-run games kick off at 7 or 8 pm.
So on weekday evenings, 1 game in 10 still has a spot at kickoff. In the afternoon, 2 in 10. After 10 pm, 1 in 5.
These games come together late. Half are posted less than 15 hours before kickoff. How to time it: finding a game without a team.
Anything free?
Lyon's big public complex is the Plaine des Jeux de Gerland, in the 7th district: eight 11-a-side fields. They're reserved for clubs, schools and Divertisport. You can't just show up eleven strong on a Tuesday night.
On Poteau, games set up on public fields are almost always free: nearly 9 in 10 across France. In Lyon they stay rare, and indoor centers do most of the work.
To look around you, there is Data ES (equipements.sports.gouv.fr), France's official sports facility database. And to see how it works elsewhere: free soccer in Paris.
No team? Fine
On Poteau, close to half of player-run games are short only one or two people.
As long as you're the only one signed up, the game happens half the time. Once a second player joins, 8 times out of 10. At five, 95%. The second person to join is often the one who makes it real.
You see the price, the open spots and who's already in before you go. The organizer's number is on their profile, handy for finding the entrance.
Picking the right level
Almost every player-run game shows the level it expects. About 1 in 6 welcomes levels 1 to 4, so beginners too.
If you don't know where you stand, the level quiz scores you from 1 to 10. More than half the players who take it had rated themselves below their result.
