5v5 soccer rules (the ones nobody explains)
In short. In 5v5, usually: no offside, the walls are in play, subs roll on and off, and slide tackles are banned. The box is often for the goalkeeper only. The rest depends on the venue, so ask before kickoff.

Every venue posts its own house rules. When in doubt, those win.
The format
On Poteau, nearly 9 games in 10 are 5v5. The rest range from 6v6 to 11v11, on bigger fields.
Nearly half of games run 90 minutes, and nearly 4 in 10 run an hour. Usually there's no halftime. You take a break when someone needs water.
The walls are in play
Most 5v5 fields are boxed in by walls or netting. The ball bounces back and play goes on. No throw-ins, no corners.
You can play a one-two off the wall (and it never complains).
When the ball goes out
Over the netting, or out on an open side: restart with a kick, not a throw. Some fields have a net overhead, or a height limit on the ball. Then the venue's rules decide.
No offside
Usually there isn't any. Hanging around the other team's goal is allowed. But with strangers, the player who never tracks back gets noticed fast.
The keeper's box
At many venues, only the keeper can go in. A defender stepping in often means a penalty. An attacker, and the ball goes back to the keeper.
Fixed or rotating keeper: settle it before you start.
Rolling subs, no slide tackles
More than ten players? Subs roll on and off. One off, one on, without stopping play.
Slide tackles are banned almost everywhere. On turf, it burns. Near a wall, it hurts. Screw-in metal studs are banned almost everywhere too.
No referee
Nobody's blowing a whistle. The player who got fouled calls it, and play restarts with a kick from that spot.
When there's too much arguing, it's rarely about a rule. It's that not everyone showed up for the same game.
What about futsal?
Different game. A gym, a heavier ball that barely bounces, a referee, and kick-ins. No walls.
And from a team's sixth foul in a half, every foul gives a free kick with no wall.
The rule people forget: the vibe
On Poteau, almost every game set up by players shows its expected level. Most also set a vibe: “Casual” for nearly 6 in 10, “Competitive” for 1 in 4.
That's the real rulebook. A Casual game at level 4 isn't a cup final.
